This is a blog for anyone who’s ever experienced something Otherworldly, something mysterious and unexplainable, and wondered if it was real.
It is for anyone who’s had no one to share these experiences with, or been met with blank stares, polite nods, or outright dismissal when they do.
It wasn’t so long ago that these kinds of encounters with the Otherworld were considered completely normal in our culture. They were understood and honoured. But today, sadly this isn’t the case. Walking this path can often feel lonely and strange.
This month, in our Mystery School shamanic journey circle, we explored this very challenge: how hard it can be an edge-dweller, to live as a spiritual seeker in a world that doesn’t always understand. The reasons are many: feeling judged, isolated, unsure where to start, or afraid to speak about your truth.

I know this feeling
I relate deeply. For years, I knew no one who felt or thought like me. I used to browse the mind-body-spirit section of bookshops, devouring one book after another, but have no one to share my discoveries with. This was before online communities existed, and I literally knew no one like me. When I shared my thoughts with a few trusted close friends, they listened with polite interest but they couldn’t understand me. I would watch as their eyes began to glaze over and the conversation would rapidly move on to a different topic.
The turning point was when I found others like me and there was a meeting of minds. I remember walking down the hill to the first weekend of my shamanic medicine wheel training course I had booked on, chatting to my new course mates, and everything suddenly made sense. I was finally coming home.
A foot in two worlds
Yes, over a decade on, despite now running a thriving Earth spirituality community, I’m still straddling both worlds, dipping between the sacred and the everyday, often minute to minute.
Just this week, I had a powerful experience out on the land and it blew my mind. I wanted to share it with everyone… but realised that if I did, they would dismiss it and that would kill the magic. So, I chose to keep it close.
But here, in our The Way of the Buzzard community, I know you’ll understand. And perhaps it will help you make sense of your own experiences too. So, I am sharing it now.

The pilgrim
Last year, I climbed all thirty of the mountains in the Yorkshire Dales. This time wandering this landscape has changed me, and it continues to do so.
Earlier this week, I found myself drawn back to Ingleborough Mountain, my favourite of them all. It was my second visit in just a few days. The first visit, I chose not to arrive as a tourist, but as a pilgrim. I left an offering of flowers from our garden at the limestone pavement known as Thieves Moss, treating the mountain as the being I know it to be.
When I returned a few days later, this time with Jason, we wandered through the towering boulders on our approach up the mountain. These erratics were left behind by melting glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age. I remarked, that they were in fact marbles dropped mid-game by giants.
As we approached Thieves Moss further up the mountain, one of the finest limestone pavements in the Yorkshire Dales, I watched Jason pause to take a photo at the very same spot I had done just days earlier. I smiled. There’s something about this place that invites you to stop and take it in.
In that moment, I shared with Jason my theory that our distant ancestors would make pilgrimages here, to the limestone pavements, caves, waterfalls and scattered erratics. This would have been a sacred land to them, where the veil is thin. A place where people came to step beyond the everyday, to connect with the magic of the unseen: the Otherworld.
Because we need awe in our lives. We need those moments that lift us from the ordinary and remind us of the mystery. Fleeting though they may be, they stir something deep within us: the sense that we are part of a far greater story, and we can hold on to this as we go about our everyday lives.

A song on the mountain
Jason and I found a sheltered spot overlooking the limestone pavement to eat our lunch. With the first warm sun of the year on our faces, we settled down for an afternoon snooze.
Then, as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard it: a loud, clear whistle, playing the hymn To Be a Pilgrim. This was song I hadn’t heard of since I was at primary school. We used to sing it in assembly. I thought to myself how interesting it was that it was a song about pilgrimage, given the conversation I’d had with Jason just moments before.
I sat up. “Who’s whistling that?” I asked Jason.
“It’s that guy walking over there,” he said, pointing across to the limestone pavement.
Content with his answer, I lay back down, commenting how this place was like an auditorium, the acoustics were so perfect and what a good whistler that walker was.
But when the song came again a few minutes later, a perfectly played tin-whistle. There was no one there. The walker had moved on.
Then, I heard a woman’s voice singing the words: To Be a Pilgrim.
I commented later to Jason about the song being sung by the lady, but he hadn’t heard it. He hadn’t recognised the tune either.
This was just for me.
And that’s when I knew that this was coming from the Otherworld as a message, a confirmation.

These signs are real
It took time to fully realise what had happened and piece it all together. But I know it now in my bones: this mountain is sacred, and it is here for me to work with it.
This is what it means to walk this path. From time to time, we receive these moments of confirmation. They aren’t always loud, although in this case it was, but they are unmistakably real.
And yet, we so often keep these extraordinary experiences to ourselves, don’t we? Why? Because when someone dismisses your sacred moment, the magic can fade and we can doubt ourselves. So, as we walk the Earth path, we learn to carry our stories carefully and only share them with people we think will understand.
If you’ve had an experience like this, I encourage you to share it in the comments below. Not only to honour it, but because it helps others see they’re not alone, and not imagining things.
Edge-dwelling is not easy
To Be a Pilgrim is a song about walking the path with courage and conviction, no matter how hard it is. Written in the 1600s, it speaks of facing danger, ridicule, and hardship, and staying true. It’s the anthem of the edge-dweller and a perfect tune to accompany this blog.
Many in our Mystery School community have shared just how challenging it can be to walk a spiritual path in the modern world. There’s often a fear of being judged or ridiculed, a sense of isolation, or simply feeling like no one truly “gets” them. Sharing spiritual experiences can feel uncomfortable or even shameful when those around them don’t understand, and often close friends and family respond with dismissal that they happened.
Many speak of doubting themselves, wondering if the signs and synchronicities they notice are real. There’s a deep yearning to believe in the magic, but it can be hard to hold onto in everyday life. Living between the sacred and the mundane can be a real challenge, longing for connection while navigating a world that often dismisses the unseen.
A pilgrim’s way
And yet, despite it all, we keep on walking.
We build deep relationships with the land, nature, and the spiritual realm. In doing so, we come home to ourselves. We rediscover truths that have been lost, and bring them forward into our everyday lives.
We are pilgrims on this sacred Earth path. It may not be well-trodden in these modern times. But it is ours. And we need to get out there and experience it as much as we possibly can.

I loved this and I totally get it. Ive had many experiences which some would call coincidences. This one stands out the most. Id ask a question using my pendulum. I wanted to know what my spirit animal was to cut a long story short a Raven was the answer. I asked for confirmation. I was assured there would be. That afternoon I was sitting in my garden which is in a town. I heard a CAW CAW above me. 2 Ravens were circling above me. That was confirmation enough for me.
Wow, what a marvellous ‘coincidence’. So reassuring aren’t they, when they happen. Thanks Tim.
Years ago we were cycling the Camino Norte in Spain. As I laboured up a long hill I kept seeing the word GIN chalked again and again on the road. Suddenly I twigged – it was the anniversary of my Father dying – he always loved a gin ( easy on the tonic!) so it was a timely message for us to stop at the next bar and raise a g&t to him!
This is so lovely, and amazing Jo. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Oh My God Nicola this is amazing. I kid you not I’m in ancient Matera in Puglia Italy on hiking holiday with much more experienced hikers . I was nervous I wouldn’t manage the very challenging gorges hills and canyons. But I did it and that song came up my head and I was humming to be a pilgrim all day . Absolutely startlingly beautiful coincidence . Thankyou Anita x
Wow, that is incredible. It is amazing how all this works eh. And well done you!!!
That’s wonderful, thank you kindly for sharing 🙂
There are several ancestral sites close to home where I can just ‘be’, but each and on every occasion shows repeated signs regardless of the time of year e.g. a crow will circle, or a rabbit will appear.
It is lovely to hear your experiences Stuart, thank you so much for sharing too 🙂
I loved your story Nicola, thanks so much for sharing. Today I went to a beach that I rarely visit and sat in a new place near a rock. I was thinking about my mum who has recently died. When i looked at the rock i saw that someone had clearly etched JUNE into the rock (my mum’s name!) It seemed an unusual name to be there, on it’s own. So i feel it was a message for me.
Gosh yes, how amazing is this. And what comfort this must be as you acclimatise to life without your mum, to know this message has been sent to you. Thank you – it is really touching to read your story.
People are and were always too often quick to label the unusual, unconventional, particularly back when the banner of mental health was incalculable and anything psychosis would have people locked up. It’s not surprising people stop sharing who they really are and sad when the only reason is their sensitivity to nature and spiritual things. It’s been a long and deliberate effort needed by me not to take the cruelty of what people say personally, to be the real version of self, knowing a personal truth and mindfully walking that path. There are feelings of being alone or lonely, that’s due to it’s being self-imposed, but no one is ever alone, they just don’t realise it.
Thank you Lynd, such wisdom here in your words. I really appreciate you sharing.
Completely resonate with you Nicola. My pilgrimage is along the Icknield Way where my ancestors probably walked as they lived not far away and of course Boudicca would have travelled part of it. There is something about walking alone on the long, mostly untravelled road and nice to have company some times too. BBx
Oooo, that has been on my list for a long time Caryl. It is so inspiring to hear you are walking this. I recon my ancestors would have walked this too. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this Nicola I absolutely loved hearing about your experience. How special!
I’ve loved reading everyone’s comments and experiences too.
I feel like I get a lot of signs from wildlife and nature, angels, visions and also experience synchronicities.
Robins especially bring messages from loved ones who have passed.
I often have messages from what I sense are angels around me.
I’ve had a rough few weeks with illness in our family recently. I was driving to work a few days ago saying out loud my usual affirmations to the universe, asking for support for those who need it and saying what I’m thankful for from my angels and spirit guides…..as I spoke of how grateful I was for all the love in my life I turned a corner and the licence plate in front of me was 0005 LUV. I then switched on the radio and “there must be an angel” by the Eurythmics chorus was playing “must have been talking to an angel”. Some would say a coincidence but I’ve learned to take notice.
It just makes me smile and gave me a much needed boost. I feel blessed with every message/affirmation I receive in whichever way it comes.
Wow, well there you go. As Einstein said: ‘Coincidence is Gods way of staying anonymous’. I hope this is a comfort to you in what has been a difficult time recently. It feels really special.
Lovely blog, also spooky because I’ve had that “to be a Pilgrim” song stuck in my mind for a couple of days now, that was after a dream in which I heard a religious song being sung which I now cant remember, I was stuck with that song in my brain for about three days and kept singing it, so strange.
So strange… and not! These coincidences mean something and are so powerful. I have goosebumps and am excited hearing this Andrea. Have you reflected on the meaning of that song and what the message might be for you? Perhaps something to hold close and see what emerges over the coming days/ weeks/ months about the topic of pilgrimage.
Soon after my dad died my then husband and I had a private wake in the back garden we had bought a remembrance rose and while saying a few words to my dad a dragonfly landed on the rose and settled for at least 10 mins I had never had a dragonfly in my garden before and that summer they kept appearing in my conservatory after that – my dad was in the war as a navigator on Lancaster bombers his name was Doug Fuller initials DF to me the dragonfly (DF) was his spirit communicating –
I love this.
Wow, yes! How special that your dad came and communicated to you in this way. Thank you so much for sharing Jane.
Thank you for sharing this. What a wonderful gift you received. One of the most magical experiences I had was some years ago when my elderly cat, Annie, passed. We had enjoyed a long and special relationship and she taught me much. A couple of days after her passing, I didn’t want to connect with her directly as I felt she was busy with her journey so I asked for a sign that all was well with her. Shortly afterwards, my partner and I were sitting in the garden and a Robin flew down, landed at my feet and looked up at me very deliberately. I found myself holding out my hand and the Robin flew up and perched on my fingers. My partner nearly dropped his teacup! “What is happening?” he asked and I said “I think it’s the sign I asked for.” Over the next 2 days Robin stayed close to me, perching on me and keeping company with me. Then, a week after Annie’s passing, I did a little ritual for her in the garden. I had written a letter to her, thanking her for everything and giving her permission to move on when she wished. As I started to read it out, the Robin came down and sat at my feet, listening intently until I finished and blew out the candle and then he flew away. Later that day, Robin flew into the house, showing no sign of panic, just calmly perching first near me for a minute, then flying into the other room and doing the same with my partner before flying out again. We didn’t see the Robin again. A friend of mine who is a shamanic practitioner told me that Annie’s spirit had (with permission from Robin) temporarily merged with Robin in order to comfort and reassure me that all was well. I will never forget that experience.
This is quite something Val. Robins are said to appear when a loved one crosses over, as a messenger. How special that this happened. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂
A few years ago, I climbed up to a long barrow on the Wiltshire downs, above the village where I live. It is a lesser known barrow, not one of the famous ones, but it has always been a special place for me. This visit was on a cold winter day, the day before the winter solstice, and as the sun set, I realised that the barrow was in perfect alignment with the setting sun. I sat with the dogs and watched and became aware of a presence – something massive, very masculine, immense and all-surrounding – it felt like it was aware of me, but I was just something small and insignificant to it, not to be harmed, but of little importance. I have never forgotten the feeling, although it has never been repeated when I have visited. Close to the barrow is a fold in the downs which forms a huge natural amphitheatre – I am sure that this place must have been of important significance in the past, sited as it is, about halfway between Avebury and Stonehenge. There was certainly a presence there that day.
What an experience this must have been Jackie. It feels like quite something. The book The Sun and the Serpent comes to mind and I wonder if it is on the Michael/ Mary leyland. Just amazing.
Some lovely tales….I once went to find a place with my mother where my ancestors lived in S.Wales. it was called Ty Coch Farm meaning Red House. Walking in the village we came to the spot where the Red House was and a farmer was busy digging in a vegetable patch. A few weeks later we again went exploring and went to the farm again, we came to the spot but the house was white. We couldn’t understand it, the lady in the house came out and asked if we were looking for something. We explained how we’d visited a few weeks earlier and the house was Red. She invited us in and showed us a painting on her wall of the House painted Red, she replied the house hasn’t been the colour Red for over a hundred years we were all amazed she gave us tea and cake and was fascinated by our experience.
Goodness, I have goosebumps Cheryl, so you slipped into another time. This is just extraordinary
A beautiful telling of story and land, spirit and coming home.
The naming of edge-dwellers feels so organic and raw and fits like a root in soil. I am an incredibly content edge-dweller. It is those who are lost in what they imagine to be the centre that I have compassion for.
The evertime, undeniable, welcoming space that we all belong to is the only space we can belong to. It is felt and ground and light and life. It is true centre.
The sadness is that many have forgotten and don’t realise that they have. But life is used to sadness as it is used to joy.
We continue.
Thank you Gavin, you describe this so beautifully – both the sadness and the joy.
Feeling moved by your blog, Nicola. I know the hymn To Be Pilgrim from my school days too. It was our school hymn. It still resonates with me and I know I am following a path and have a strong sense of my pilgrimage through life … aspiring to living with constancy, valour, commitment and courage. Thank you for stirring these memories 🙏
PS wonderful photos 💜
Thank you so much for your note here Alison. I love your description of having a strong sense of pilgrimage through life.
Thank you for your wonderful choice of blog, Nicola. I concur with everything you say and strangely, I recently had a conversation with someone who shared a story of mine on her podcast, on just this subject. Because of its relevance I may share a link here if you don’t mind? I also loved Chrissy’s story in the comments and it reminded me of a time when I was in hospital, having just had an ectopic pregnancy. I was feeling very sad, realising I had lost the pregnancy and one of my fallopian tubes… lowering my chances of conceiving again. A stranger came and sat down beside my bed, a woman. She was quite small and almost like ‘nun-like’ in her manner and I felt her kind heart. She said she had come to pray for my baby and instantly a floodgate of silent tears opened up in me. No one had referred to my loss as a baby before and that was just how I was feeling. She sat quietly by my bed and I shut my eyes and cried. Soon I fell asleep and when I woke up, she had gone. The next day I had another visitor. She wanted to tell me about the miscarriage group that met in the hospital, offering me a leaflet and words of comfort. I said I’d had another person come to see me, maybe they were from the same group. I described her and she said there was no one like that from their group and she that was a recognised member of the hospital. But after my first visitor I started to feel better. I remember looking out of the window at the trees moving in the breeze, the sun shining through the branches and I remembered a wonderful quote a friend once said to me… ‘life always finds a way’. It felt as if life was all around me and I was part of it. I certainly never forgot the stranger’s kindness, in my sadness: https://open.spotify.com/episode/75tysn1Bf5ZXul2kKON12q
Wow, what a special experience. It really sounds like she is someone from another world who came to support you. I am so touched by your encounter here. I am looking forward very much to listening to this podcast. Thank you so much for sharing and yes, no problem sharing the link here 🙂
Dear Nicola – thankyou so much for sharing! A powerful and encouraging reminder which strongly resonates for me about the challenges in walking this path. At the Spring Equinox I just ” knew” I wanted /needed to greet the sunrise on Gog Magog down – a place I have often done ceremonies & medicine walks over the years. It is opposite Wandlebury (nowadays separated by a major road into Cambridge) a very ancient site along the Roman road. As one of the only hills in these flat lands, there is a glorious 360degree perspective of the surrounding land. I was the only person there with no dogwalkers around and the car park barrier not open until 8. When I arrived a Magpie (which I associate as my Mum’s spirit) flew in a wide circle landing in a tree on the boundary as if confirming this was where I was supposed to be. I drummed and sang as the sun rose, thanking the spirits of the land, the elements and making offerings. I could feel all my senses opening and alive – the skies were truly breathtaking and the birdsong joyous & vibrant. After about an hour I sat down and ate the picnic breakfast I’d brought. Close to the side of me I heard a dog shaking its coat and the jangle sound of its name tag on its collar. I got up and looked around fully expecting to see the dog and its owner – but there was no dog or human to be seen anywhere! I have no idea what this was about, but had the strongest sense of having been visited by a friendly companion spirit from the Otherworld and felt very calm as I set off down the hill to leave. On the way back I stopped to visit a community garden in a park new to me as a possible venue for running a workshop. A woman walking her dogs saw me looking through the garden’s locked gate and asked if I wanted help. One of the dogs came up to me wanting a stroke and she was really surprised, commenting that she had never seen him do that – he always growls and barks at strangers! Curiouser and curiouser … a very Magical early morning!!
Curiouser and curiouser indeed! I love this story Sue. Thank you so much for sharing. I can relate to that impulse of just ‘knowing’ where you need to be and then the magic that unfolds is amazing isn’t it. Magical mornings!
I’ve had a couple of experiences, both when I was driving on my own. The first time I was on a local B road approaching a left hand bend when I saw, over the hedge, around the bend, a man on a horse. I slowed down and drove around cautiously so as not to startle either man or horse, but when I rounded the bend, there was no-one there. There was nowhere else they could have gone, and I wondered if I had imagined them. It occurs to me now that it was very strange because he was riding on the same side of the road, not the opposite; I’m not a rider, but I assume the same rule applies to riders as to pedestrians – you’d ride towards the oncoming traffic and on the outside of the bend.
The second time I was driving up an A road towards Sheffield, moorland on my left. This time I saw a young woman in Victorian dress walking on the moor.
Both I think echoes of the past…
Gosh it certainly sounds like it Lindsay. What sightings these were. Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing.
Your story brought back many memories to me, many that I have hidden , some I have told to friends, we live in a wild place , it’s beautiful and so old , from being a young child I had ponies and have horses, my family home is from or part of it is from Tudor times and the stables are late 16 century, our house has many tales because of it’s age but it was used by a highwayman, he was related to the family , he kept his horses there , one of my ponies at times would not go into his stable at all and one night we turned him out , I stood watching and worrying about him , I knew someone was watching me ( my Dad I thought) and I voiced my worry and a strange voice said don’t worry he will be fine, when I turned no one was there, a few years later another horse would jump over the half stable door rather than be in that stable, other people have seen the highwayman , he does seem to check our horses time to time,
Sorry this is so long, thank you both again for last night which was brilliant.
Oooh I have goosebumps. What an interesting story Thea. That is quite something, for a horse to jump out of the stable. I am so pleased you enjoyed our shamanic journey circle – thanks so much for sharing both this story and your feedback about the circle 🙂
Thank you for sharing this. I love reading about people’s spiritual experiences, it’s so important so that we all begin to believe and trust in the magic and wonder. I’ve never experienced anything like that, I tend to get messages in visions and from nature which always blows my mind 💚
Thanks Linda, yes it is so important isn’t it. It helps build trust in what we experience when we hear others are experiencing things like this too. I love you get your messages from nature – me too. It is incredible isn’t it
About 4 years ago, I was feeling quite low. One evening, I was laying back in the bath, looking at the patterns on the window. It is frosted with a pattern of horse chestnut leaves. Part of the glass was covered with steam/condensation. As I looked, I suddenly saw the head and neck of a deer looking at me. I tried to convince myself it had always been there within the leaves pattern but the outlines of the deer were distinct and not clumsily formed of the leaves. I stared at it for a very long time as it made me feel comforted. It looked like an antelope or gazelle rather than a British deer. It was a beautiful and special vision/spectacle. I won’t forget it.
The next night when I had another bath, I tried to find the deer again but it wasn’t there. Now we’ve had the bath removed and replaced with a shower cubicle so even though the same window is still there, I’ve never noticed any images since.
I love your piper’s experience, Nicola; very special.
How amazing this happened Julie. Thank you for sharing this story! Isn’t it incredible how these images appear for us. I am touched that you liked my piper experience too 🙂
I love this Nicola, thank you for sharing it. I haven’t had an experience quite like this but I have had a tree ask me for help while walking through a forest. As I walked past a couple of trees a twig suddenly caught in my hair. I stopped and freed my hair and started to walk on when I heard a voice call out ” wait” I looked back and realised that a young sapling had called out. I asked it what it wanted from me, then my eyes were drawn to where a large branch had fallen in on the sapling and was weighing it down. I lifted the heavy branch off it, and felt it sigh in relief. I gave it a little kiss and moved on.
There is no doubt in my mind that this was a real exchange between the sapling and I, even if others have thought I was away with the fairies 🤣🤣
It sounds like you were away with the fairies – I would take that as a compliment! This is an extraordinary story Aisling. Thank you. I was with you right the way through, visualising the sapling and the feeling of it being freed. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂
I was so excited and thrilled to hear of your experience, Nicola.
My family are/were spiritualists, back a couple of generations, so seeing people , and conversations with those who have died is quite normal to me (and especially over the past year or so since my dearest Chris died suddenly-cutting a story short I knew he had died as I saw him leave , and the Police didn’t understand why I wanted them to go to his house and how could I know he had died so suddenly and unexpectedly- I’m 3 hours away.and yes, there he was. Chris and I have had many conversations and we even planned his funeral together… it was amazing. He is also in the LowerWorld and the Underworld on Journeys. Also at work we hosted funerals and it was so interesting to see people attend their own funerals and hear what they had to say.
But enough of this I feel I have said too much.
But Nicola I am so pleased you have had this experience and so pleased that you’ve shared it and asked of others to share their stories, because it opens up so much more and I am sure it helps energies to flow, being open like this. I think I’ve said enough for now and will click send before embarrassment kicks in and I delete it instead
Thanks Anny for sharing your story. I am so pleased you didn’t press delete! That is fascinating that you can speak with those who have crossed over. As you say, that must have made funerals very interesting. It is also amazing to hear the story about when Chris passed away.
Some years ago I was invited to the croning ceremony of a dear friend (we’re still dear friends!) We lived in Hong Kong at the time. we shuffled around in a circle – led by a shaman – we later set offerings at the crone’s feet – mine was a piece of turquoise. I commented afterwards to the Shaman how beautiful I had found the Native American singing & what was the CD? He replied
‘Oh! There wasn’t any music being played’
He knew it was other worldly. 🙏
Wow, what an incredible thing to happen. Thanks so much for sharing Fi
Spirituality is a spiral path, forever spiralling higher and higher but always going forward. My own journey began whilst I was in hospital, admitted with an unexplained acute kidney injury. I felt myself slip into what I can only describe as a paradigm shift. I was here but at the same time, elsewhere. People and their actions utterly baffled me. I could no longer relate to this construct we.call “society”. Our values no longer aligned. When I was discharged from hospital I was passing a woodland on my way home when I was suddenly utterly overwhelmed by love. Love for nature, love for animals, love for this beautiful planet. It was that all consuming love often experienced at the beginning of a live affair, that kind of euphoria – and since then it has only got deeper and deeper. I recently and very clearly heard and yet at the same time, saw one word “MOVE!” in capital letters with a flaming exclamation mark and in that instant I understood that means move my body, my abode, my mindset and my future. I am a work in progress, forever spiralling upwards and onwards 💕
Wow, Jadis, thank you so much for sharing. This is such a fascinating story, how your perception shifted so profoundly. Just incredible.
I just love this and the Mystery School. Thank you so much for sharing as it is often so hard to do. I’ve two major experiences like this. One was during a particularly difficult time in my life when I was questioning many things, including my relationship with my partner even though I loved him dearly. We were out one night and stopped at a cafe before heading home. It was about 45 minutes before closing and the place was empty except for few stragglers in the back, one of which my partner knew. He went to say hello and I sat down at the counter to wait. A gentleman came and sat next to me and asked if I was ok. This turned into an entire conversation with that was surprisingly very deep and comforting. I usually don’t talk to strangers at all, and certainly not about personal matters but this was different. What felt like some time later, my partner called to me and I turned around for just a moment to answer him and when I turned back around, the man was gone and so was his mug. I asked the person behind the counter where he went and they had no idea who I was talking about. The barista said there was no one sitting next to me at all. I didn’t want to sound crazy so I left it alone. Oddly enough, my partner saw the mystery person for just a split second but no one else did. His friend even asked me why I chose to sit there alone instead of joining them! That conversation not only answered questions I never voiced, it ended up being very prophetic. I remember it like it was yesterday with gratitude even though it was over 20 years ago.
Wow, I have never heard anything like this Chrissy and it has given me goosebumps. What a mind-blowing encounter. It is just amazing how these things happen. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for opening the door!
I remember waiting in a village hall car park for my son to finish his boxing class., it was dark by this time. It was the week just before lock-down and I’d been struggling to ‘Find my path’, so to speak. All of a sudden I saw a face in the tree opposite to me, he had a split beard that was plaited, a bit like the horned God. Instinctively I asked his name in my head, Estrick was the answer. I then asked my husband if he could see him too, he looked and said ‘oh yes I see him’, after that day I never saw anything in that tree again, but soon everything opened up to me and I joined a pagan group and started meeting people like me. I still see different faces in trees since that day. Now I’ve joined The Mystery School! I also thank Estrick, who ever he is.
Amazing story here Jeni. Thank you for sharing. You know, you could try journeying to Estrick if he still feels like he could be an ongoing spirit guide for you. 🙂
Yes, I will try that. Thanku.
Great, let me know how you get on if you would like to 🙂
Hi Nicola what an amazing experience! Although I struggle with meeting my spirit guides in shamanic journeying, since I have been trying, some amazing experiences have happened to me in nature. In a crisis of confidence that the goddess of all things, my Mother, wasn’t real I asked her to show me a kingfisher. And lo and behold five minutes later, one landed on a branch near me, over the river. Even then part of me thought well it could be a coincidence, even tho I knew it wasn’t. A few days ago a squirrel dropped onto a branch a few feet from my head, and we made eye contact for several minutes. Everything in nature this spring feels so charged, so alive, and trying to tell me something!
My ignite the spark sigil was about having faith, I am working on it! Thanks for all of your support and encouragement ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, this is AMAZING Sue! Thank you so much for sharing. It is incredible how it all works. And yes, we don’t need to be able to go on shamanic journeys to get guidance from our Spiritual guides. Nature is an incredible messenger.
Thank you for sharing this Nicola. I really enjoyed hearing about your experience.
I do find I am very careful who I share my personal spiritual experiences with.
And thank you for reminding me of the pilgrim hymn, which I always enjoyed singing at school, some 60 years ago. I just found my little hymn book and sang it to my cat – a most enjoyable experience.
How lovely! I am humming it in my head right now! Thanks for your note here 🙂
What a wonderful experience for you. I totally understand and align with your desire to share but finding no one who can relate. I keep my spiritual beliefs and experiences very close, partly because I can’t put into words what I mean. The fact that I know is all that matters really.
“To Be A Pilgrim” was one of my favorite hymns. I was a bit different in that I went to Sunday school voluntarily as my parents were not church goers. I was always seeking.
Thank you for providing a touch stone for me.
Thank you Maggie. I always enjoyed singing To Be A Pilgrim too! I have loved reading your story here, thank you.
What a wonderful blog Nicola. I often feel at odds with this world and have noone who really understands, though I talk at my family all the time, hoping something might ignite in them too. It is so special to have this community to share with and feel a part of. Thank you as always for your inspiring words blessings from my heart to yours ❤️
Ah, thank you Kim. It is lovely to hear that our community helps you so much. I love that you talk to your family all the time, normalising this. Maybe one day that spark will happen 🙂
