Munching Mercury

Since my twenties I have had the urge to have my mercury fillings removed. I couldn’t explain why, only that it didn’t feel right to have this toxic metal in my mouth.

One voice was telling me that it was absolutely fine, and if it wasn’t safe my dentist wouldn’t have put them in.

Yet the other, much quieter voice – really more of a hunch than a voice with words – told me that mercury fillings weren’t a good thing.

It would be another fifteen years before I decided to take the plunge and have them removed. It wasn’t because I felt ill effects from them, although on my travels I have met a couple of fellow travellers who have had theirs removed because they were making them poorly. I have included their stories later on in this blog.

Deepening our Spiritual Connection

I had my mercury fillings removed because I was seeking ways to deepen my spiritual connection. I had heard that one way was to detoxify our pineal gland. The pineal is a tiny pea-sized gland shaped like a pinecone located deep in our forehead and is what we in spiritual circles call the Third Eye.

The Pineal Gland is said to be vital for physical, mental and spiritual health, while also being a gateway to higher consciousness. It is widely believed that the pineal gland is key to our spiritual awakening and psychic abilities. Through a poor diet, exposure to toxins in the environment and food we eat, stress and modern life, the pineal gland gets hardened, then calcified and eventually shuts down.

When I looked into what causes toxification of the pineal gland, I discovered a list of substances including mercury from our fillings.

It was the push I needed, and I made enquiries with my dentist about having them removed.

Removing Mercury

Now I had heard that removing mercury fillings could be dangerous, which is one of the reasons why I had put it off for so long. I had been told that once they are in our teeth they are best left there. Our bodies are at risk of mercury poisoning if during the procedure any of the mercury is left behind and escapes into our blood stream.

That said when I decided to take the plunge I didn’t make any particular investigations beyond my local dentist surgery. I simply booked myself in for the procedure and found the money I needed to have the work done. It felt like the right thing to do. During the procedure my dentist kept on referring to the aesthetics, and how good my teeth would look without them. She couldn’t understand my reasons beyond appearance, and I didn’t try to explain too much either. I was just pleased she was up for the task and she did do a great job. In hindsight looking back now I would advise doing the research and finding a dentist which is specialised in this procedure, and understand the risks.

That was three years ago since I had my mercury fillings taken out, and I haven’t noticed any positive or negative effects since. It just feels really good not to have mercury in my head any more. I have a good connection to Spirit, and that could be to do with all kinds of reasons which I can’t attribute to one single thing.

Tales of Mercury Madness

However as I wander on my travels chatting to folk, the topic of mercury fillings comes up from time to time, and I hear stories of how their removal has dramatically changed peoples lives. So, I thought it was time I gathered some of these tales together, and shared them with The Way of the Buzzard community.

Not least because so many of us are looking for ways to deepen our connection with spirit, and mercury is one of the substances that on a physical level research says is standing in our way. But also because I have been really taken aback by the stories I have heard, and how damaging mercury has been to some people.

It’s culturally acceptable to have this toxic heavy metal in our mouths, and yet when you drill down (sorry about the pun), it seems quick shocking that it was ever thought a good idea to use this substance to help us in this way, and the World Health Organisation has advised that it is no longer used.

One of the things I am really passionate about in The Way of the Buzzard is sharing stories. Such strength can be taken from hearing the tales of fellow travellers and so I am delighted to be sharing the experiences from two people here, Juliet and Linda.

Lets hear from Juliet first.

Juliet’s story

During the mid 1990s the wonderful ‘Here’s Health’ magazine (sadly no longer available) published a series of articles about the effects of mercury, highlighting its use in amalgam fillings. Around this time Mercury amalgam was no longer used to fill pregnant women’s teeth in Sweden as research had proved that it could damage the growing foetus.

The articles also revealed that Mercury leached out of fillings and concentrated in fatty tissue and a vapour called methyl mercury was released when hot drinks were consumed which travelled up the nasal passages and eventually into the brain.

Due to mercury being a deadly poison I decided I must endeavour to reduce my toxic overload by having my 8 amalgam fillings removed.

My health was impacted by the above in the following ways:

  • – Lethargy and tiredness
  • – Depression and mood swings
  • – Inability to concentrate and retain information, ‘fuzzy thinking’
  • – Memory loss
  • – Headaches
  • – Aggression and rage
  • – Excessive saliva

Amalgam, being a mix of metals emits positive or negative charges when combined with saliva. Before the removal of my fillings the dentist measured the current coming from them which was highly significant and she explained that they must be removed in a particular order to minimise the impact on the brain. In fact the most dramatic and instant improvement in my health was my ability to think straight! (obviously the electric currents from the fillings were interfering with the electrical impulses in my brain!)

All the negative health symptoms disappeared after the removal of all 8 fillings and I am convinced that I was being poisoned by them. It sounds dramatic but I don’t think I would be here now if I hadn’t made this decision.

Alarmingly, my doctor at the time and most of the dentists I’ve seen since have been completely patronising. Apparently I’m just ‘over sensitive’ (!) Some have even denied that Mercury is poisonous!!

… and now lets hear from Linda.

Linda’s story

I can look back to when I was 40 and see the first, noticeable physical symptoms; slight tremor and rigidity in my left arm. During the next 10 years these gradually worsened and other symptoms appeared; dragging my left leg, various aches in my body, fatigue and urinary frequency which was especially bad at night and meant that I became desperately sleep deprived. I had also suffered from feelings of emptiness, depression and anxiety from being a teenager. I also had terrible dermatitis on my hands.

All this was unexplainable and doctors had no answers. I was against medication and led a reasonably healthy life, bringing in organic foods and looking for natural remedies.

Then, aged 50, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. What a shock! Family and friends couldn’t believe it.

My way of coping was to improve my diet even more, gradually cutting out gluten, sugar and eventually alcohol and lactose. Also searching out more and more organic foods.

The dermatitis cleared up but why did I have Parkinson’s? The doctors told me it is degenerative. I couldn’t accept this.

During my 40’s I had become aware of the dangers of mercury fillings and, as I had had mercury fillings in my mouth since being about 10, had looked into having them removed. Fears stopped me and I buried my head, not making the connection with my increasing symptoms.

A few years after my diagnosis I started researching more deeply. Mercury is the second most toxic substance on the planet. It is a neurotoxin and as well as physical symptoms it can cause depression, anxiety and feelings of disconnection. I could no longer bury my head in the sand; surely there was a connection.

I tried doing some detoxing myself just from my own research but this is not advisable. I made myself very ill as I was re-poisoning myself as I stirred up mercury in my body and my liver and kidneys were struggling. I just didn’t understand the complexity of it.

So I searched out a mercury-free, mercury-safe dentist and a naturopath who specialises in heavy metal detoxification and started on a cleansing regime. I then had my mercury fillings removed and replaced with biocompatible fillings.

Removing the fillings isn’t the end of it; the mercury gets deep into the brain and nervous system, the bones and organs, and is very difficult to remove. Even under the guidance of a naturopath I made myself ill again and currently am fearful of trying to detox again. The organs of elimination must be functioning well and so at present I am just following my cleansing diet and doing the best I can for my body.

Sadly, at a physical level, I can’t say this is a success story as the Parkinson’s has worsened and I am on increasing amounts of medication. I have had to for any quality of life but this does go against my belief that the body can heal given the right conditions.

My physical and emotional struggles, though, started me on a long spiritual journey of growth and, through suffering, I have developed humility and compassion for others. I have been blessed to meet some lovely people and improved my relationships within my family. I have a depth of spiritual understanding and a faith which keeps me going, even at the loneliest and darkest times.

The Long Pursuit

Our bodies are one of our greatest guides in our personal and spiritual journey through life aren’t they? Dis-ease has a loud voice, and one which cannot be ignored as the volume gets progressively ramped up over time. What these two stories have shown me is the importance of listening to that quiet voice and following our gut instincts when it comes to our health.

Speaking with Juliet and Linda has also reaffirmed my belief that we all have powerful stories to share, and now is our time to get them out there, to support each other in our journeys of awakening. It can be a lonely path sometimes, pushing against conventional wisdom, and there is a great strength in sharing like this, so and thank you Juliet and Linda for sharing your experiences with us here.

We are excited to hear your tales of mercury madness if you have any, or whether you also have a quiet voice inside you speaking out about having them removed.

POST BLOG NOTE: We have received a book recommendation from one of our Bog readers Clare Gibbons. Here is what she has said: “Please read the book ‘The Medical Medium’ by Anthony William. You will learn everything you need to know about mercury, how you should only ever have these fillings removed one at a time, and leave time between, as disturbing them releases the mercury. You will learn all about mercury being the true cause of adhd/ autism/ dementia/ most seizure disorders and how to remove mercury from our bodies naturally using natural ingredients, and how each ingredient works. I have stopped by sons epilepsy by following his advise, he’s now been seizure free for over 2 years, and I’ve turned his autism around!!! …. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. You can also follow Anthony William on Facebook ‘medical medium’.”
Thank you Clare!

  1. I agree. I have recently been considering having my mercury fillings removed, i cant even remember why i began considering it, i could only assume that it was my ‘inner voice’ too (just as stated in the article). And then seeing the article in my inbox and reading about the symptoms, etc., … well i think its perhaps another sign for me to trust my instincts and to go ahead with the process. Im actually very grateful re. the article and now feel more certain and more confident that i do truly want to go ahead with removing my mercury fillings. Thank you!

  2. Great article, down to earth and very useful. In the past years I have replaced some of my mercury fillings and only have one left. Mercury is poisonous and this is not to be minimised just because some, or even most, do. Thank you for sharing plainly and simply here Nicola x

  3. I think my pineal gland may have shutdown I really would like to know if I can get the 3rd eye back as I have cancer leukaemia I have been told my blood is getting better but may come back please help someone also if anyone could tell me about the leukaemia coming back I’m on chemotherapy can anyone help please please either with 3rd eye or my cancer thing

    1. Hi Robert, I wish I could help as it sounds really distressing. My knowledge just comes from online research into detoxifying the pineal gland – there is plenty out there if you do a google search.

  4. I’ve thought long and hard about this and hate having mercury fillings but have been told they are too big to remove without compromising the teeth. Don’t know what to do.

    1. Hi Jennifer, what a predicament. I wonder if it is worth seeking out a specialist like Juliet and Linda, who is sympathetic to the health reasons for removing the fillings, or getting a second opinion (if you haven’t done already). Also I know that my fillings were different sizes, and so maybe some of the smaller ones won’t pose a problem being removed? Good luck with your explorations and fingers crossed 🙂

  5. It’s also worth considering mercury in the diet, as this can be more considerable than the amount that might leach out of a filling. Fish can have a particularly high level of mercury, such as halibut and tuna. Just something to think about 🙂

  6. Please read the book The medical medium’ by Anthony William. You will learn everything you need to know about mercury, how you should only ever have these fillings removed one at a time, and leave time between, as disturbing them releases the mercury. I have stopped by sons epilepsy by following his advise, he’s now been seizure free for over 2 years, and I’ve turned his autism around!!! It works!!! Mercury is in childhood vaccines it’s called thiermosal and also the flu jab!!!

  7. I forgot to add, Nicola, that Anthony William, the author of The Medical Medium gets everything from spirit, he is at least 30 years ahead of the medical profession with the true causes of illness and how to finally heal. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. You can also follow him on Facebook ‘medical medium’.

  8. Hi Nicola. As usual, this is a very interesting blog and of particular interest to me. I have had poor teeth from childhood, my mother blaming it on the poor diet following WW11 whilst she was pregnant with me and then in my early years. So I have had Mercury fillings in my teeth for 60+ years! I first became aware of the idea that they were toxic in the ’80’s when I was into therapies like Rebirthing, Co-Counselling, etc. I also used to read Here’s Health which was a brilliant magazine. I asked my dentist about it at the time and he pooh-poohed the idea and I didn’t know what else to do as there was no internet then to research things. I do know several people who have had them removed. They went to private specialists in other parts of the country so it was an expensive business and, as a single parent, I was not in a position to find that sort of money at the time. Also, the results seemed a bit variable. I am not aware that the Mercury has caused me any particular harm that I can pinpoint although, obviously, I don’t know what it might have affected or be affecting. I asked about having them removed again a few years’ ago. The dentist seemed a bit more open to the idea this time but I was told that it would probably cause most, if not all, of my teeth to collapse so that doesn’t seem very sensible either. I have also read that it can be more dangerous to try to remove them. I have already lost several teeth in recent years though probably not due to Mercury, although I can’t be sure of this, so I am a bit wary about anything which might cause further problems as I am trying to hang on to what teeth I have left!

      1. Hi Claire. Thanks for your posts. I have not come across Anthony Williams so will look
him up. Sounds like his advice has been great for your son.

  9. I had mine taken out about 25 yrs ago , before I had my children . That way I knew exactly what was going Into my babies bodies . They had no vaccinations so didn’t get any mercury or aluminium or formaldehyed there either .
