We have some of the most beautiful countryside and powerful sacred sites here in the northwest and the UK. How can they help us in our spiritual journey?
This is a question I have held close for many many years, when I sensed one day, sitting in stone circle back in my late twenties, that the answers are on our doorstep. Our ancestors wouldn’t have travelled many thousands of miles for that enlightening transformational moment in their lives. A few might have done yes, but the majority of people would have found exactly what they needed right where they lived.
We are so lucky here in the northwest to be surrounded by three amazing national parks – The Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, and we have even more if we travel a little further across to Wales or the North East and Scotland. Then there are the country parks and moorlands like Rivington and Anglezarke close to where we live. Over the last few years Jason and I here at The Way of the Buzzard have been arranging gatherings out in these places to deepen our spiritual connection and work on both inner and outer transformation. We have had the most extraordinary times, and feel passionately that this is where really big work can and is being done.
Not detracting of course with all the wonderful things which do happen on spiritual retreat and sacred trips abroad, but they do come with a price, both in terms of money and carbon emissions, and are not something that you can do every month. Our countryside is immediately accessible, and from our experience just waiting to work with us. So lets go!
The shots in this blog are taken from our recent day workshop at Robinhoods Stride last Sunday. We have run workshops there now for three years and it always gifts us the most perfect day, with the most perfect weather!
As one person said a the end of the day “there really isn’t a need to go anywhere else than the UK with places like this”. We agree!
We have lots of plans for next year going out to more of these special places so watch out for our 2016 programme of events coming soon. Initially in the northwest, but we do have ideas to venture a little further sometime, down to Glastonbury and the southwest, and the wild west coast of Scotland, so watch this space!
